He is the focus
Matthew 9:32 As they went out,
behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.
Matthew 9:33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marveled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
Matthew 9:34 But the Pharisees said, He casts out devils through the prince of the devils.
Matthew 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
Have you ever wondered about the dumb man? I know we look to know Jesus and we need a scouting report on the devil, but what about the person going through this spiritual tug of war. What we know, he could not speak. Without reading ahead the cause could be natural. Except we also know he was possessed with a devil. What does that mean? This man or his parents or both had intimate dealings with the darkness we call sin. Most common ways I know to be taken over is sexual sin repeated and false religion taken to the extreme. That's why I've included his mom and dad or even to the 4th generation, parental sin could mean generational devils. But what about the man? I think it curious that the devil closed his mouth. I think this because #1 There is power in words(God creates with them) so the devil could use this man and his mouth but he picked not to. #2 We know alcohol and drugs lower defenses and people say all kinds of things and think this way also(bullet proof) and the primary reason is the devil gets them to speak his mess and undo their lives and the lives of others. But he decided to close this mans mouth. What we don't know is, was he born like this? Or was he a known man caught in sin and his voice robbed from him. He could have been an up and comer in the Pharisees religion and a public scandal erupted and he is left speechless and alone. The Pharisees reaction could have a little venom for the man as well as for Jesus and the casting out of the devil.
What we can behold is this, the man and his problem is not the focus. The reactions of the crowds, not the focus. The man from God with authority from heaven, he is the focus. For this cause came he into the world to destroy the works of the devil.
