I like it when understanding comes. Things get plain and easy to follow.
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.(burdensome)
We can pin point this, nail it down right here and now, no questions, no dark place where doubt could live, 'this is" the love of God. While growing up life has been a variation of "This is" as we learn not to grab hot containers or this is dangerous, don't do it or "this is "good for you. John, writing from the experience of being with the Lord Jesus Christ for all of his earthly ministry also writes from a lifetime of walking out this faith. A treasury of new and old comes to us every time we read his writings. Grace reigns in right standing with God so perfection in performance is not the point to keeping his commandments. It's the wanting to keep them. In wanting to keep them we learn that we need him. We see the error of religion. That if we continue with him 'this is' his work and we agree with his work. We are children of God but there is no difference between us and a servant. We do his work on the earth, that work is living out this book.
